“People tell me that because I’m old that some of my early history is quite interesting.” Born in Salford 94 years ago, Les reflects on almost a century of living in Greater Manchester and memories of his earliest years when he left school at 14 to work for a shipping office in Albert Square.

Les recorded this story for A Grand Life, Heard – a project which aims to amplify the voices of older people and to reconnect communities following periods of isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic. We invite you to listen to the lessons contained within their story.
