CARDIFF “DOUBLE TAKE” EXHIBITION

The stories formed a trail of ‘Living Portraits’ through the city centre and were accessed via scanning a QR code on listeners’ mobile phones. The exhibition was also hosted online at forcardiff.com/proud for those unable to visit in person.

From the streets of Pakistan, clubs of Cardiff, hospital waiting rooms, and funfairs on Barry Island, these stories take listeners on a personal and candid journeys, all focused on the theme of ‘Proud’, with the importance of representation at the core.

The Double Take Exhibition was commissioned by FOR Cardiff, celebrating Visit Wales’ Year of Trails theme. Visitors were able to listen to true spoken stories from 8 LGBTQIA+ people who live or work in the Cardiff, and their chosen story partners. The stories were accompanied by beautiful large-scale portraits of the storytellers, which were hosted in retail windows, throughout the centre, including Lush, St David’s Dewi Sant and Cardiff’s iconic arcades.

“ It feels absolutely amazing to be part of Cardiff PROUD exhibition. One thing that I am extremely proud of is being Welsh and being a very proud Cardiff boy; so to be part of this, it’s an absolute honour.

I hope that anyone who listens to my story, will believe in themselves and not think of those things that other people have kept doubting them for and I really hope it inspires them in that way. ”

Parkour is more than a sport. Whether we are navigating physical barriers or societal norms, the spirit of parkour reminds us that with determination, community and creativity, anything is possible.
